This is an official ODERSA website. Here’s how you know

The official domain

The address of this site ends in odersa.org. Every service the association runs sits on a subdomain of odersa.org and nowhere else. If the address in your browser’s address bar does not end in odersa.org, this site is not ours.

Free, and no account

Everything is open straight away. No sign-up, no account, no password, no subscription, no advertising. Nothing is held back for those who pay, because there is nothing to pay for.

No data collected

This site does not follow you: no tracker, no tracking cookie, no measurement tool built into these pages, and nothing measured on your device. Our host counts requests in aggregate, as any server that answers does: a total, never a profile. You do not have to take our word for it: open your browser’s developer tools, go to the Network tab, and reload the page. You will see the full list of what the site asks for. Everything comes from odersa.org, nothing goes anywhere else.

Free to reuse

The content is published under the CC BY 4.0 licence. You may copy it, translate it, print it and pass it on, for your classes as much as for the people around you, on one condition only: credit ODERSA.

In one sentence

Before Help Arrives is a free web game that makes people practise the actions that save lives through played-out situations, published by ODERSA, a non-profit association under the French law of 1901 with an educational purpose.

In one paragraph

France teaches the actions that save lives once, at school or at driving school, then almost never again. Before Help Arrives drills those actions through played-out situations, where the scene stops dead on a decision, where a mistake plays out before it gets explained, and where you pick up at the last checkpoint until the right move becomes a reflex. 20 situations are playable out of 20 planned, with 100 decision points and 69 public sources quoted with their exact passage. The game is free, needs no account, collects no data, plays offline, and its content is under the open CC BY 4.0 licence.

What sets the project apart

  • A rhythm mini-game for chest compressions: thirty seconds to hold between 100 and 120 compressions per minute, with fatigue making the tempo slip. It teaches what no video passes on, namely that it is exhausting.
  • An interactive defibrillator: the device gives its instructions one at a time and waits for each one to be done, like the real thing.
  • Every action stated carries its public source, its exact quotation and the date it was checked. When two sets of guidance genuinely conflict, the game names the divergence and follows the national guidance; an action no official public source carries leaves the game.
  • No data collected, no third-party service, no cookie banner: checkable in the network inspector of any browser.
  • Fully playable by keyboard, with reduced animation, with subtitles for every sound.

Please do not present this game as a course or as an equivalent of the French PSC1 certificate: it is neither, and the precision is part of what makes the project serious.
